Sunnyside Unified School District turns to Hive Fabric™ to boost its virtual desktop infrastructure ecosystem with AI-powered, all-in-one stack

Hoboken, NJ, February 12, 2019 – HiveIO Inc., a technology company that transforms commodity data center equipment into a software-defined virtualization platform, today announced that the Sunnyside Unified School District has selected Hive Fabric™ to power its virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) ecosystem. The Artificial Intelligence-ready hyperconverged fabric (HCF) solution will help the district’s IT team increase efficiencies by providing an easier-to-manage, all-in-one stack that’s able to meet the increased demand of desktop applications from students and staff.

Sunnyside USD is the second largest school district in Southern Arizona serving more than 16,300 students and families through more than 20 schools. Sunnyside’s mission is to develop students with a strong sense of identity, purpose, and agency. To support this mission, the district’s IT team is dedicated to providing students and faculty with the most innovative technologies to enhance learning. Yet as Sunnyside USD continued to expand, the IT team needed a way to scale its infrastructure alongside the district while maintaining a seamless IT experience.

Together with HiveIO, Sunnyside USD deployed Hive Fabric on top of its existing hardware to deliver a simple yet powerful VDI ecosystem. Hive Fabric is a zero-layer, hardware- and vendor-agnostic HCF solution that empowered Sunnyside USD to move from a multi-vendor, multi-layer stack to a single all-in-one stack. The result was a robust VDI ecosystem that’s managed with a single point of contact for support.

“Prior to the Hive Fabric deployment, the Sunnyside IT team was using four different vendors on a traditional three-tier architecture, with separate boxes from separate vendors for compute, network, and storage,” said Javier Baca, CIO at Sunnyside Unified School District. “We selected HiveIO because it was an easier-to-manage VDI solution that provided simple scalability and was just as robust as our current stack. Hive Fabric also helped the district transition from managing individual desktops to pools of desktops, which freed up our IT resources, allowing the team to focus on delivering an even better experience to our staff and students.”

By deploying Hive Fabric, Sunnyside USD significantly reduced its IT resourcing costs by eliminating the multi-vendor approach. Additionally, the Sunnyside USD IT team is now able to run a VDI solution that provides persistent user profiles and simpler management to roll out windows updates.

“Education has always been a priority for our society, and we have witnessed the increasing demand for technology to keep up with students’ expectations on digital resources,” said Dan Newton, CEO HiveIO. “We are very proud to be able to offer Sunnyside USD a simple, easy-to-manage and cost-effective solution that allows them to provide the ultimate experience to their staff and students while satisfying their performance, scale, and security needs without the vendor and licensing complications.”
